ClickUp AI suggests. Saltare agents execute — research, task management, document writing, multi-agent workflows. All from an @mention.
ClickUp is a feature-rich project management platform that added AI to help with writing, summarization, and task suggestions.
The difference: ClickUp's AI assists you inside a project management tool. Saltare's AI agents operate as autonomous team members — they research, create tasks, write documents, query databases, coordinate with other agents, and build persistent memory.
ClickUp added AI to a dashboard. We built a workspace around AI.
| Capability | ClickUp AI | Saltare |
|---|---|---|
| Core interface | Dashboard/project management-first | Chat-first workspace |
| Task management | Comprehensive (views, custom fields, time tracking, dependencies) | Purpose-built (states, pipelines, subtasks, labels, calendar) |
| AI capabilities | Writing assistant, summaries, task suggestions, standups | 69 tools: research, tasks, docs, databases, integrations, multi-agent workflows |
| AI memory | Limited to current context | Persistent memory across all sessions, conversations, and projects |
| AI autonomy | Assists with suggestions — user executes | Agents execute tasks autonomously — user reviews |
| Real-time chat | ClickUp Chat (newer feature) | Core feature: channels, DMs, threads with AI agents in-line |
| Documents | ClickUp Docs (rich editor) | Markdown collaborative documents with version history |
| Databases | Not available (custom fields on tasks) | Structured data tables with natural language queries |
| Research capabilities | None | Web search, news, RSS, URL fetching — automated research pipelines |
| Multi-agent collaboration | Not available | Agents call other agents for specialized sub-tasks |
| Integrations | 1,000+ (via native + Zapier) | 20+ native connectors used by AI agents directly |
| Automation | ClickUp Automations (trigger-action rules) | Three types: tools, event triggers, cron-scheduled automations |
| Complexity | High (steep learning curve, many settings) | Progressive (start with chat, add complexity as needed) |
| Price | $7-12/user/mo + $5/user/mo AI add-on | From $0 (Free) — AI agents included |
ClickUp AI suggests task descriptions, writes summaries, and fills in fields. You still do the work. Saltare agents search the web, create subtasks, write complete documents, coordinate with other agents, and deliver results — from a single @mention. The AI does the work. You review the output.
ClickUp is a powerful dashboard. But dashboards require structured input — someone has to update the board, move the card, fill in the custom field. Saltare starts with a conversation. Tasks, documents, and data emerge naturally. For teams under 50 people, chat-first means higher adoption.
ClickUp is notoriously feature-dense. Teams spend weeks configuring spaces, folders, lists, views, custom fields, and automation rules before getting value. Saltare is productive in 5 minutes — create a channel, @mention an agent, get work done. Complexity is available when you need it, never required.
ClickUp has real advantages.
ClickUp has time tracking, Gantt charts, dependencies, resource management, whiteboards, and dozens of view types. Saltare is more focused.
ClickUp's custom fields on tasks are more flexible than Saltare's task model. If you need 15 custom fields per task, ClickUp is better.
ClickUp's integration library (1,000+) is significantly larger. Most AI agents in Saltare use native connectors, but niche integrations may not be available.
For managing 50+ projects with cross-project dependencies, ClickUp's hierarchy (spaces/folders/lists) is more mature.
Most SMB teams are over-tooled, not under-tooled — and the complexity gap favors Saltare.
AI agents that work. A workspace that's simple. Research that runs itself.
